longwinded and dull. read at your own risk.

running is funny. while i'm running, i'm uncomfortable, but i can push the discomfort away for a very long time*. the pain is repressible, like hunger. a point in the distance.

as soon as i stop running (not b/c the discomfort is suddenly near, but b/c i've reached some goal), i can barely walk another step. the pain rushes forward, i'm doubled over, its disgraceful b/c i'm sure i could've run another half mile had i not stopped. which means its mental, like peeing*, which like most other things in life, is about pain tolerance.

* why do we say uncomfortable but discomfort? what's wrong with uncomfort or discomfortable?

* on long car rides, i can hold pee for hours, but as soon as i see a toilet, i barely have time to pull my pants down. sometimes i pee a little bit in my pants. just a little bit before i can position butt over bowl.
